The organisation is entering the next phase of its technology transformation, with the India GCC taking on greater ownership of global data and AI platforms. This role will lead the evolution of the data platform, semantic layer, LLM gateway and associated engineering capabilities from foundational architecture into scalable, enterprise-grade platforms.
The mandate extends beyond building individual data or AI solutions. The leader will integrate data engineering, semantic modelling, AI and platform engineering into a cohesive capability that serves multiple businesses and markets, while establishing the architecture, standards and governance required for responsible scaling.
Operating across multiple countries, businesses and languages, the organisation must address variations in data definitions, business processes and technology environments. The leader will work across India and international markets to develop reusable global capabilities while accommodating legitimate local requirements.
Own the end-to-end architecture and roadmap across the data platform, semantic layer, LLM gateway and SDLC platform, driving integration across these components.
Take an architecture established within the past three to four months to production-grade maturity, with clearly defined service contracts and interfaces between components.
Set technical direction for data engineering and big data workloads, including ingestion, modelling, lineage, data contracts, freshness monitoring and cost efficiency at scale.
Establish the semantic layer as the authoritative source for governed metrics, entity relationships and business glossaries for both human and machine consumption.
Build enterprise capabilities for LLM and agentic applications, including retrieval and RAG architectures, context management, tool interfaces, memory and multi-agent workflow orchestration.
Ensure AI outputs are grounded in governed data through the semantic layer, providing reliable and actionable business insights.
Own answer quality end to end through evaluation suites, regression testing, observability and root-cause analysis of incorrect outputs.
Operate the LLM gateway as a shared, policy-governed and cost-transparent service across business units and markets.
Design for multi-country, multi-currency and multi-language environments, including localisation of metric definitions, taxonomies and business semantics.
Harmonise data models across diverse business verticals, including retail, home improvement, supermarkets, marketplaces and financial services, while preserving legitimate business differences.
Partner with regional data owners to resolve conflicting definitions and establish which standards and metrics should be governed globally versus locally.
Lead and structure an organisation of approximately 50–60 professionals through 3–4 direct reports in a matrixed reporting environment.
Hire and develop engineering and AI leaders, establishing high standards for technical depth, delivery pace and quality.
Build career pathways and capability frameworks that establish India as the long-term centre of excellence for the platform mandate.
Establish data and AI governance frameworks covering access control, privacy, model and tool usage policies, responsible AI practices and consumption cost management.
Drive adoption across business and technology teams through enablement, documentation and demonstrated business outcomes.
Establish and lead the platform governance cadence with regional and global stakeholders, resolving overlaps in scope with adjacent data, analytics and engineering teams.
