It is setting up a new technology-focused Global Capability Center (GCC) in Chennai. Teams at the center will build and run the technology behind one of the world’s most visible retail brands, working closely with colleagues at the US headquarters. Global COEs at headquarters lead Talent Acquisition, L&amp;D, HR Operations and Talent Management. The India HR team will deliver these programs locally and own the employee experience on-site.</p><p><strong>Why This Role Exists</strong></p><p>&nbsp;The Director will set the India GCC HR Function up from scratch while the center scales its hiring: the team, policies, processes, payroll and HRIS, and statutory compliance. As the senior HR leader on-site, they will shape the people strategy, culture and talent engine. This is first and foremost a senior HR business partner and culture-building role.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><p><i>Site HR Leadership &amp; Business Partnership</i></p><ul><li>Act as the main strategic HR partner to the India site leaders and the wider leadership team.</li><li>Lead org design, workforce planning and change management as the center scales.</li><li>Advise leaders on high-impact people decisions, run team effectiveness assessments and keep practices consistent between the US and India.</li></ul><p><i>Culture &amp; Brand Stewardship</i></p><ul><li>Build the center’s culture deliberately from day one, in line with the brand’s mission and values.</li><li>Set up listening mechanisms such as skip-levels, roundtables and employee forums, and act on what comes out of them.</li><li>Use sound judgement on sensitive matters, working with Communications and Legal, since local actions at a high-visibility brand can draw national or global attention.</li></ul><p><i>Talent Acquisition &amp; Onboarding (with global COEs)</i></p><ul><li>Oversee ramp-up hiring by leading the on-site TA team and the GCC build partner.</li><li>Build pipelines for critical and hard-to-fill technology roles in the Chennai market.</li><li>Deliver Day One onboarding and 30-60-90 day plans, and adapt global leadership programs for India.</li></ul><p><i>Total Rewards, Performance &amp; Employee Relations</i></p><ul><li>Implement compensation, benefits, leave, recognition and incentive programs for India.</li><li>Lead the performance cycle on-site.</li><li>Handle escalations, investigations and separations.</li><li>Track attrition and engagement.</li></ul><p><i>Compliance &amp; People Risk</i></p><ul><li>Ensure full compliance with Indian employment law: Shops &amp; Establishments Act, PF, ESI, Gratuity, Maternity Benefit Act, POSH and the Labour Codes.</li><li>Set up the POSH Internal Committee and own statutory filings and audits.</li></ul><p><i>HR Operations, Systems &amp; Budget</i></p><ul><li>Establish HR policies and systems.</li><li>Own payroll, HRIS and vendor governance, and manage the India HR budget.</li><li>Design shift and working-hour policies that support collaboration across US time zones.</li></ul><p><i>Team Leadership</i></p><ul><li>Build a lean India HR team at a ratio of about 1 HR partner to 400–500 employees.<br>&nbsp;</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><p><i>Essential</i></p><ul><li>12+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years in senior HR leadership.</li><li>Has built an HR function for a GCC or captive center from the ground up, scaling to 200–300+ employees.</li><li>Strong enterprise HRBP generalist who can work across a global, matrixed, COE-based HR model; deep specialisation in one COE is not required.</li><li>Background in the technology sector, supporting engineering, product or data teams.</li><li>Strong executive presence and the ability to influence senior leaders without title parity.</li><li>Deep knowledge of Indian employment law and statutory compliance.</li><li>Based in, or willing to relocate to, Chennai.</li><li>Bachelor’s degree.</li></ul><p><i>Preferred</i></p><ul><li>Experience in retail, CPG or consumer brands, or with a high-visibility US or global brand.</li><li>Knowledge of the Chennai talent market.</li><li>Has set up payroll and HRIS platforms.</li><li>MBA or Master’s in HR or OD;
